Criteria Pollutants
Definition:
A list of air pollutants identified in the 1970 Clean Air Act Amendments deemed to be critical to controlling air pollution and for which National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) were established. Criteria pollutants include:
  • sulfur dioxide (SO2)
  • nitrogen dioxide (NO2)
  • Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs)
  • particulate matter (PM)
  • carbon monoxide (CO)
  • lead (Pb)
