What is air quality and why study it?

Air quality is a measure of the amount of atmospheric pollutants that exist which may be harmful to your health. Many organizations such as AIRMAP measure and study air quality because there is evidence that polluted air might cause otherwise healthy youth to contract respiratory disease. It is easy to understand why air quality is important since we are in intimate contact with the surrounding atmosphere and susceptible to airborne pollutants as we inhale 20,000 liters of air each day.
